Iran fable animation goes on India screen

Iranian animation ‘Kelileh & Demneh’ has been scheduled to go on screen at the 7th edition of the Kolkota International Children’s Film Festival (KICFF 2018) in India.

Directed by Alireza Tavakkoli-Bina, 'Kelileh and Demneh' are two young jackals. The drama starts in the middle of a rainy night when the horrified owl pays a visit to the king of the jungle to report about the excessive hunting he had witnessed.

‘Kelileh & Demneh’ is the Persian version of ‘The Panchatantra’, which is a Sanskrit ancient Indian collection of interrelated animal fables in verse and prose, arranged within a frame story.

The animation has received the Special Jury Award at the Children’s Fest section of the Eurasia International Film Festival in Kazakhstan, 2017.

It has gone on screen at a number of international events, including the Canada Kids Film International Festival, the Seoul International Youth Film Festival in South Korea, the International Film Festival for Children and Youth JUNIORFEST in the Czech Republic and the Rolan International Film Festival for Children and Young People in Armenia.

Founded in 2011, the Kolkota International Children’s Film Festival is an annual event which is held in the west Bengal state of Kolkota in India. The festival screens more than 200 films from 32 countries where thousands of children get there to see their favorite films and characters.

The festival is slated for January 19- 27, 2018.
